help me find a book i read in middle school, about 6 years ago.?

for a few years now, i’ve been thinking about this great book i read years ago. i don’t remember the title, author, or much about the story. i just remember i really liked it and don’t think i finished it. i’ll try to describe the book as best as i can. i remember in either the front or the back of the book is a map. the story begins with the girl going to her grandma’s house for the summer i believe. there’s a mysterious mountain or raised up lake in the little city her grandma lived. i know it says in the book that people don’t go up the mountain because at the top is fog or clouds and nobody knows what’s in it. planes can’t see what’s inside either, and i think it said something about when planes or helicopters go over it, the instruments go funny. anyways, the girl finds a map and a staff? in her grandma’s house and goes up the mountain. then something about her hiding in a tree because she’s being chased by someone and something with the staff hitting the tree and she ends up going back in time. she meets indians? and learns their way. and this part i’m confused by, i don’t know if i got another book mixed up with it but i think in the end, she gets dragged underwater by alien things and talks to these things underwater? i’m not sure about that part. anyways, i don’t think i finished it and it would be great if anyone could help me find it.
it’s a sci fi teens book i’m guessing. whenever she’s hiding in the tree a powerful storm comes along and there’s thunder and lightning and that’s what knocks her out and when she wakes up she’s inside the mountain/valley thing.

Entry from: Delhi, India Entry Title: “Outside the bubble” Entry: “Phew…what a whirlwind trip these past 3 weeks have been! But so incredible nonetheless. Re-centering but off-putting all at the same time. I have to admit, spending two weeks in veritable luxury (especially compared to my lifestyle for the past 2 months) has been fabulous. Swimming, lounging by the pool, air conditioned personal transport, hot running water, not having to cook, clean or do laundry…truly felt like the life of royalty. Vacation with the parents was a nice dose of home and also afforded me the opportunity to travel beyond my bubble here in Bhuj; getting to see some of the miraculous other parts of Northern India. Our journey began on the overnight train to Ahmedabad- complete with mouse visits and station platform chaos- where we then drove to Udaipur. Quite the culture shock for me upon arrival at the hotel: marble floors, chandeliers, people waiting on you hand and foot, television! I just wanted to take it all in. It’s amazing how content I was with my simple living, as I had grown so accustomed to it while somewhat distancing myself from the western (read: lavish) lifestyle. I guess it’s only when one steps outside of their environment- getting a taste of ‘the other side’- that one is able to fully see what is

How was the frontier closed in the United States?
At the end of the 19th Century the migration of people from the east to the west caused considerable change and conflict. Native Americans lost long held land to United States as it carved out the western territories into states for settlement. The closing of the frontier would lead to ever increasing diversity and conflict. From the time that Europeans came to North America until the present, their interactions with the American Indian peoples have been detrimental to the geographical land holdings of Indians. The project for this section is to select an American Indian nation and track their territory in three different maps. The maps should be a series of the same geographic region (United States, portion of the U.S., etc.). It should show the following time eras:Revolutionary era (1770s), turn of the century (1900s) era, and modern day era. The maps should be followed by a brief history of the nation that you have selected.

Is this POSSIBLE proof of a faked death?

Reserpine is an indole alkaloid[3] antipsychotic and antihypertensive drug that has been used for the control of high blood pressure and for the relief of psychotic behaviors, although because of the development of better drugs for these purposes and because of its numerous side-effects, it is rarely used today.[1] The antihypertensive actions of Reserpine are a result of its ability to deplete catecholamines (among the others) from peripheral sympathetic nerve endings. These substances are normally involved in controlling heart rate, force of cardiac contraction and peripheral resistance. .[4] Reserpine depletion of monoamine neurotransmitters in the synapses is often cited as evidence to the theory that depletion of the neurotransmitters causes subsequent depression in humans. Moreover, reserpine has a peripheral action in many parts of the body, resulting in a preponderance of the cholinergic part of the nervous system (GI-Tract, smooth muscles vessels).

The Reserpine theory: Michael Persinger, a neuroscientist at Laurentian University in Sudbury, ON Canada, developed another miracle-free explanation of the resurrection story. While experimenting on rats, he noted that when the animals were physically restrained and injected with reserpine — or similar drugs — their body temperature would decrease rapidly and they would be appear to have died. Three days later, they revived on their own. Presumably, a similar reaction would happen in other mammals. Of course, it would be impossible on ethical grounds to conduct a similar experiment on humans. Persinger speculates that Yeshua of Nazareth (Jesus Christ) may have consumed either reserpine or a similar drug. This might have happened at the Last Supper, or when he was offered a sponge containing a liquid while on the cross. It is generally acknowledged, at least by some mainline and most liberal theologians, that John the Baptist had been a member of the Essene religious group. There is some evidence that the Essenes used psychoactive drugs in their rituals. Perhaps they had found reserpine, a drug which is has a plant origin. Yeshua certainly was restrained on the cross. The soldiers could have believed that he had died, and released the body, only to have Yeshua spontaneously recover a day and a half later in the tomb. 2,3

Why is it that when Wisconsin makes the national news, its either for violence or a major /facepalm?

I love my state, but why can’t we be recognized for all of the great things our citizens have accomplished? Most of us CAN point out Arizona on the map. Many of us have even bothered to learn INTERNATIONAL geography. I’ve lived in Wisconsin almost my whole life and I can find the United Kingdom on a map after just a few moments of searching. HOW COME THAT’S NOT ON THE NEWS??

Wisconsin really is a great place. We have more then just people who get fat on cheese then get drunk on beer then shoot up the place and then ride off on their Harleys. We have cannibals too! I kid, I kid, we have a quite a few lovely tourist traps, I mean, vacation destinations that AREN’T Native American Casinos/Gift Shops filled with overpriced “authentic” Indian crap.

In all seriousness, I think Wisconsin gets a bad rap in the media. The little bit of coverage we do get is limited to fat jokes, jokes about serial killers and cheese and/or beer jokes. Everywhere in America has fat people, why put it on Wisconsin?? And California actually produces more cheese then we do now, they have been for a few years. Give them the cheese jokes!

I know this is turning into a rant, but honestly, don’t judge all of Wisconsin by Peggy West, especially the people who live outside of her district and didn’t vote for her.
Sarah: The fact that you couldn’t see the intended comedy in my comments highlights this situation.

I’m not “ashamed” of Native American gaming, so put your race card away. It’s the low quality merchandise sold in most gift shops and convenience stores (Native American or otherwise) that bugs me.

And I know quite well that casinos bring in revenue to the state. No one needs to spend their life working in casinos to figure this out.

The Dells and Door County ARE tourist traps.

Endgame for the British Empire?

We are at war.

Not with any particular nation, not with the British people, but with the remnants of the British Empire (which never stopped dominating and exploiting its colonies, though it did nominally collapse); more precisely, the British financial and ruling elite, who are at war with the world.

Led by City and Wall Street financiers using Tony B. Liar and Gordon “Genocide” Brown as a front, they are committed to a policy of systematic de-industrialization through alternating financial speculation, war, and fiscal austerity.

Their objective is to destroy productive enterprise, wipe all nation-states from the map, commit genocide on a global scale to reduce the population, and usher in a new global feudalism. Moreover, the British Empire is faced with the same sort of problems that have always driven it to imperial expansion – the North Sea oil is running out (depletion of resources) and the City lies in virtual ruins (as empires expand, the capital base of the economy is invariably crowded out by financial speculation). In short, we are at this moment engaged in a conflict, the outcome of which will determine the survival of civilization itself.

With his historic snub of Gordon “Genocide” Brown and the termination of the “special relationship,” American President Barack Obama has not only declared, in no uncertain terms, that America will NOT be party to the coming British attempt at genocide through starvation, but the President has effectually begun civilization’s counterattack against the feudal, fascist British Empire. Additionally, a coalition appears to be forming between some of the great nations of the world – the United States of America, China, India, Russia, and possibly Brazil.

The key now for the civilized nations of the world, is extricating ourselves from the collapsing British financial system (of which Wall Street has been a subservient part since its earliest days). Once we do that, we can proceed with the hard work of rebuilding the basic infrastructure and industrial base of our economy and the economies of other nations.

I assure you, I am not a conspiracy nut. The above-listed events and dynamics are all in the public domain; I have merely put the pieces together based on my experience and knowledge in foreign affairs and international economics, as well as from (for the more recent happenings) some trusted contacts in the beltway.

Do you think this is finally the end of the evil British Empire, which for so long has kept billions of people impoverished for no reason other than the profits gained from resource extraction in the developing world? Is London finally going to go down?!
Celia H,

Once again, the facts themselves are all well-known and widely available. What is it – PRECISELY – that you dispute?

I have applied my own interpretation of the events, as I said, but if you merely read a news story and absorb the data, you’re not developing any level of understanding. To understand how the world works, one must look at the data points and extrapolate trends and motives.

Again, specifically, what can I help clarify?
REGARDING WHAT?! This isn’t a damn biblical prophecy, it’s my interpretation of current events, based on experience and knowledge in this area.
For instance, one data point is “the North Sea oil is running out.” Do you really need me to back that up with the production stats? It’s pretty well known by just about everyone with any knowledge of the UK or energy markets.
LPW,

THIS IS NOT A CRITICISM OF THE BRITISH PEOPLE. Indeed, the British people will soon experience the consequences of their fascist rulers’ imperialism in a very bad way.

That said, there remains an elite in Britain (and to a lesser extent, in the US) which is convinced that the imperial age was a golden age, that feudalism is optimal, and they are hell-bent on restoring the British Empire by any means necessary.

Red Dead Redemption sequel?

Due to the success of Red Dead Redemption, only a retard would assume that Rockstar isn’t going to make a sequel. While RDR was one of the most acclaimed games of all time and showed how to make a great western game, there is always room for improvement. Now i ask, will the developers @ Rockstar listen to some ideas from a few loyal followers? Here’s hoping, and here’s some ideas.

Gun Customization: Back in the old west, you lived and you died by the gun. That means these people came up with more than a few versions of firearms. Why not be able to upgrade calibers of weapons? and what about special weapons like a Derringer or the gun from Quigley Down Under? In fact, i’m sure they can come up w/ some creative new weapons as well.

Companions/Sidekicks: The Lone Ranger had Tonto, so why can’t you get a sidekick as well that you can call upon? The trails are long and lonely, and hardly anybody ever rode alone at all times. It only makes sense to have some backup.

Ranching: The ranching missions were pretty easy and sort of enjoyable, why not have the choice of helping run a ranch? The ranch would also serve as a way to make some extra cash.

Swimming: I remember how pissed i was when i figured out you couldn’t swim in Vice City. And it was the same thing w/ RDR. Its not asking a lot for a guy to know how to swim.

Player Customization: This will be a big one, but its worked for Saint’s Row and Mass Effect, why not have the next story center around a young up-and-coming gunslinger. After all, John Marston wasn’t in Red Dead Revolver, so its not that big of a deal. Lets create our own character and make our own story in the wild west.

Indians: Am i the only one who noticed that there were hardly any indians in RDR? How about getting Crazy Horse a little screen time next go around ok? maybe even have a little cowboys and indians minigame/multiplayer action.

Trading: bartering and trading was a huge part of the economy in the old west, so it made no sense that RDR didn’t have it as an option. It would be cool to trade with other citizens, as well as indians. “Hey chief, here’s some firewater, now you mind if i have some of that gold?”

Gold/Mining/Treasure: The treasure part of RDR wasn’t as fulfilling as it sounds, plus you can’t really mine or anything, all you do is follow a map. Lets try and improve on that.

Western Legends: The whole time i played RDR, i wondered to myself “why are there no famous people in this game?” It would be awesome if they could throw in Billy the Kid, Wyatt Earp, Clay Allison, Doc Holliday, Tom Horn, Bat Masterson, Wild Bill Hickok, Jesse James, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid or even fictional legends like The Man with No Name, The Magnificent Seven, Pecos Bill, Bret Maverick, and so on. It would definitely lend some genuine legend to the story. Imagine being a young gunslinger running into Wyatt Earp in Dodge City.

Saloons, Saloons, Saloons: If you were a man in the old west, you went to the saloon for a good time, in RDR, all you could do was play a few games and take 3 or 4 shots before you stumbled around drunk. Now i think the ability to have a barfight would be awesome, and maybe even throw in a security/bouncer minigame. Also, maybe if a cowboy wants a little female companionship, he should be able to go pay for some.

Trains: All you get to do is ride the train…why can’t you rob it? It only makes sense to me that this would be one of the most fun things to do in the old west.

Posses: Back in the old days, you could round up a posse to go after a bounty or to get some revenge or just shoot out the lights in town to have some fun. Like in a lot of other games, you should be able to recruit some “assistance” when you feel the need to.

Boats: the big wrecked ship in the game is the closest you come to a riverboat. now after that, why not have a riverboat saloon or ferry?

Clothes: The old west wasn’t exactly fashion week in Paris, but you should still have more choices than the last game. Also, i don’t remember people in the old west unlocking clothes, they just went in the store and bought them….or they stole it from someone else. Also how about some fur clothes? I mean if i get to kill a buffalo, i want to wear it, not sell it to the general store.

I know this sounds like a lot, but it will only make it a better game. As for my final parting request, here’s the name: Red Dead Retribution.

Indian cities are searching for the magic bullet, abandoning the heritage

What language(s) should I learn?

I am considering certain languages to learn in my lifetime for both career and personal travels, but I can’t decide which one(s) to learn. I already have a list that I’ve made and why I’m looking at those. So, please don’t try to persuade me about one that doesn’t even appeal to me – unless, in an extreme situation, there’s one that is very similar and is just as useful. I know someone can’t just tell me to pick one or pick a set, but hopefully you can enlighten me past what I’ve already looked into.

Well, I’ve been looking at French, German, Russian, and Arabic – and no, I’ve never had any interest in Spanish, no matter how much it’s spoken. I’ve taken a few Spanish classes and did quite well at it, I just didn’t like it.

I’m looking at French for several reasons. For one, my fiance is surely set on French, and she and I want to learn the same language so that we can speak to one another in that language as well. Second, the language appeals to me because it is romantic, and is somewhat rhythmic. I was also impressed at how many countries speak this language – France, Belgium, Monaco, a few other countries in Europe, near half or a third of Africa’s countries, and many islands in the Atlantic, South Pacific, and Indian oceans. One thing I’m afraid of is the stereotypes that I noticed quite a few people hold about French such as being “pansies,” or weak/cowardly, or of course, all being complete snobs. I don’t know why these stereotypes are common or if any of them are true to any extent.

With German, I like it for different reasons. It sure isn’t romantic, but it sounds very strong and powerful – which is appealing to me as well. However, only Germany and a few surrounding countries such as Switzerland have this language as their primary. Another thing that I noticed was that Germany’s climate/environment seemed a little more lush or less arid than France, even though they are right next to each other (correct me if I’m wrong or just wasn’t viewing enough or the right travel pictures lol). I don’t know why, but just as much as I like sunny and warm, I also like a good amount of dampness or precipitation.

I like Russian for the same reasons as German, and I would also want to learn it to get a little more in touch with my heritage – my father’s side of the family came to the United States from Ukraine and I think I’m roughly a quarter to a third (maybe even close to a half) Ukrainian. The same problem lies with Russia, though. Only Russia and a few surrounding countries have this as their official language. But, I just looked up a global map and it appears that quite a few countries surrounding these countries widely use and understand Russian, even many Asian countries. Western Russia’s landscape also looked less arid or dry as France – correct me if I’m wrong. I also noticed Russia and Germany seem to have a lot more forest and wilderness, which I like. Again, correct me if I’m wrong.

Lastly, I was looking at Arabic because it strangely seemed romantic or rhythmic to me as well. There are a few countries in which I’d like to travel that have this as their official language, such as Morocco, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, etc. And, like all of the other languages, I think the culture, more from an art and architecture point of view, is beautiful or mysterious.

So, I’m very sorry this is so long, but there’s a lot I’ve looked into and and still wondering about. I don’t know what I’m doing as a career yet, but I am pretty sure that it will be in the science and/or technology/engineering fields – possibly even aerospace and astronautic science/technology (I always had an interest in space lol). I’ve looked a little into which ones are the most beneficial for careers, but still don’t know much.

Oh, and until my fiance and I transfer to a bigger university, Spanish is the only language offered there. So, what are our other options as far as places to go or methods for learning languages? Also, is Rosetta Stone as good as they make it look?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks a lot!
Note: also want to learn an Asian language as well since I absolutely love Asian culture. Between Chinese (probably Mandarin) and Japanese, I’d probably pick Japanese – even though it’s much more isolated. So, I’ll add these to the discussion as well.

I don’t think I’d learn one of them as my first foreign language, though…but who knows.

What is the citizenship of an Indian child born in the United States?

A friend of mine is expecting a baby this December. He had few doubts about the citizenship of his child.
He and his wife are Indian Citizens born in India. Both his and her parents are Indian Citizens by birth. They hold valid Indian Passports.
They have been residing in the US for past 3 years and the child will be born in the United States.
So the child by the virtue of lex soli be a citizen of the US
Also the child by the virtue of lex sanguinis be a citizen of India
my question is when the parents register the childs birth at an Indian Mission, the child gets his Indian Citizenship. But the application requires both the parents to declare that the child has not accquired another citizenship. Will this declaration be true?
If so, will the child loose his US Citizenship?
What happens when the child becomes a major. Will he be required to denounce one of his citizenship?
What happens if the parents become a naturalized US Citizen in the future?

Is this how you know that you grew up in Tornado alley?

You know you grew up in tornado alley if…

The first thing you do if you hear tornado sirens during the day is check your watch to see if it’s noon…or run outside to look.

You don’t get worried unless the sky looks “green”.

You use the word “tornado” as a verb.

You chuckle at all the facebook groups called “I survived the ___ tornado.”

You might go indoors when there’s a tornado, but you won’t “seek shelter” for anything less than an F3.

You know what Doppler radar, Hook echo, wall cloud, and rain-wrapped all mean. And you can read the radar map.

You’ve never exactly memorized the tornado precautions, but you’ve heard them enough times that you know them by heart anyway.

Watching the weather is entertaining. And red on the Doppler radar is exciting.

The phrase “Tornado on the ground, take your immediate tornado precautions” sends exciting shivers up your spine.

You’ve seen photos/videos of tornados and said, “Wow, that’s a nice one!”

You can feel/smell tornado weather brewing a few hours before the storm actually begins.

There’s an odd feeling as though you’ve misplaced something if you make it all the way to June without a tornado warning near you.

You think people that live in earthquake and/or hurricane prone areas are crazy.

You know what people are talking about when they mention the “May 3rd/Moore” tornado and the “Greensburg/May4th” tornado.

You watch the movie “Twister” just so you can point out all the inaccuracies in it.

You know your weathermen by their first names. i.e. Gary.

When you hear the tornado sirens go off, you go outside to watch the storm and take pictures.

Most of the tornado video footage comes from everyday people with camcorders instead of from actual news/weathermen.

You’re sure there’s a giant tornado magnet hidden somewhere in Moore. And that there are smaller ones distributed throughout trailer parks.

You know that the four seasons are actually: summer, late summer, winter (if you’re lucky), and tornado.

You don’t consider it windy until the windspeed is faster than 30mph.

You are highly entertained by people from outside tornado alley when there is a tornado watch.

You learned that some other states don’t have tornado drills from this list.

There’s enough random stuff in your tornado shelter that you could live there for a year.

You stand under your carport or open your front door to watch hail and/or thunderstorms.

You know the difference between a basement, a cellar, and a storm shelter.

The weather is a completely acceptable subject for conversation, at any time, for any occasion.

Your local mall has “tornado shelter” signs posted.

It doesn’t bother you the next day to find out that your area was under a tornado watch the night before and you had no idea. Unless, of course, it caused you to miss some interesting cloud formations.

Getting to “play” in the basement/cellar/storm shelter numbers among your favorite childhood memories.

You keep matches, candles, and candleholders in more than one place in your house.

Your town will never get hit by a tornado because you’re between two rivers or because an old Indian legend says so.

You complain about severe weather reports that interrupt the TV show you’re watching.

You can get together all your most important possessions in 2 minutes flat.

When tornado sirens woke you up in the middle of the night…you rolled over and went back to sleep.

You’ve ever tried to reassure someone by saying that “if anything forms it will only be a little tornado”…and couldn’t understand why this didn’t calm them down any.

It’s normal for your area to be under a tornado watch for multiple days in a row.

When looking at houses/buildings you give them a “tornado survival ranking”. i.e., how big of a tornado it would take to destroy it. Also, if you are in a new building or house, you evaluate in your mind the best place to take shelter.

You’ve ever asked (probably w/ disdain) “Don’t they know the difference between a warning and a watch?”

You know what towns/cities a tornado normally passes through before coming your way.

From watching radar maps, you’ve heard of almost every small town in your state. And you know what towns are around them, but you have no idea where in the state they are.

You know what the freight-train noise sounds like from personal experience.

You laughed at everything in this list, but you also respect a tornado’s power. And you know that after it’s over, clean-up and re-building has to begin.

I need a map of India/something that symbolizes Indian civilizations dating from about 400-1450 AD. Help?

It can be of just how India was scaled out at the time, or the crops they grew…any kind of map, as long as it’s relevant to the Indians and the time period.
Can be about anything relevant to the Indians and the time period. (Which note is 400-1450 AD, NOT BC. That’s why I’m having trouble)
