Happy Confederate History Month! (Long article, not for the faint-hearted)?

Isn’t it about time people find out what “Confederate History” actually means?

I’ll save you the trouble:

1) The South was no more racist than the North in the war. Slavery existed in the North and in the South. We were taught in school that there were “slave states” and “free states”, but that is nothing but a lie. Generals Grant and Sherman were slave owners in the North. Grant refused to release his slaves until he was legally forced to, saying that “good help is so hard to come by these days”.

2) Northern slaves endured much more horrific and life-threatening work conditions than Southern slaves. Northern slaves worked for less money than they owed to the factories in which they worked, trapping them in economic slavery, where the slaves are forced to house and feed themselves. At least slave owners in the South looked after the physical well-being of their slaves as they were considered expensive property. In the North, workers lives were expendable.

3) The Southern army was a desegregated force. Surprise surprise. They Southern army had blacks serving side-by-side with whites since day one, even at First Mananas. The Union only allowed blacks to serve MANY YEARS after the war started, and they were only allowed to be SERVANTS and PORTERS. It took an entire year for the Union army to allow the blacks to wield rifles into battle, and ancient (1st Revolution era) weapons at that. The Union black soldier was equipped with inferior weaponry and paid less than the Confederate black or indian soldier, who got EQUAL PAY.

4) While in office, Lincoln never gave a rat’s ass about the slaves. He said in his campaign that he would allow slavery to continue if the Southern states did not secede. They seceded anyway. Then, the ONLY TIME that slavery was an issue during the war was THREE YEARS into the war. The Emancipation Proclamation freed NOBODY as it was a dictation to states NO LONGER IN THE UNION. It was written to provide a moral issue so that the war could CONTINUE and the northern military industrial complex could continue making money.

5) As high as 95% of Southerners did not own slaves…so, what were they fighting for? One speech is cited by many hateful people, the speech by the Vice President of the CSA which stated that slavery was a “cornerstone” of the South. That was merely pandering to the crowd, THE RICH SUPPORTERS OF THE VP. 95% of Southerners, the common people who died for their country, had no affiliation with slavery and, thus…had to have been fighting for SOMETHING ELSE, the same thing we have been talking about for a very long time, and the argument that is rising again, STATES RIGHTS. The Fed was becoming more and more powerful and oppressive. The division in the country was not “slave” and “free” states, it was Northern and Southern states. Look at the election map! The country is cut in half, according to the regional allegiance. The country was formed out of two different countries, and secession was the ONLY way to ensure the South got representation, as the North was using force to make the South obey instead of allowing the South equal representation. A key event that confirms this is the South Carolina nullification crisis of 1832. See the link for further details. The states were protesting for states rights LONG before the war, which happened because all avenues of reconciliation were spent.

6) Many years earlier, slavery was ended in England. Exactly 0 people died, 0 people were injured, 0 lives were destroyed, 0 homes burned, and 0 cities pillaged and plundered. The cost of the legislation was a fraction a fraction of the cost of the War of Northern Aggression and Reconstruction combined.

7) Secession is not treason. It is legal as the States are not barred that power specifically in the Constitution, a power clarified by the 10th Amendment and declared in the Declaration of Independence: “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”
8) Defense of your country is not treason. Once the Southern states seceded, they were their own country. The Southern people defended their country very bravely to the last man against an overpowering enemy. That, my friends, is called patriotism, dare I say heroism.

In the end, YOU HAVE TO ASK YOURSELF THIS, what would cause the Southern people to stand and fight like they did. The South had a smaller army, a puny navy, poorer weaponry

Ok, andy, sorry for my outburst. About (3), I will say this for any region as black soldiers were commonplace in the Army as early as First Manassas, one of my sources discusses that.

In addition, Confederate Brigadier General Edward L. Thomas should be quoted for his successful efforts to pressure the Congress to enact legislation enabling blacks to enlist in his Georgian army. They, as cited above, were enlisted anyway by the Generals who had free reign in that respect.

I need help. I have a project, and i need to list discoveries that Lewis and Clark made in each state they traveled (i.e. animals, plants, Indians.) These states include:

Why have the Christians been so passionate, about destroying cultural histories?

For example, in Europe, alone, Christians destroyed great stockpiles, of maps, and navigational aids, which seafarers had used, in all seven oceans, for generations.

When Christian invaders found the advancement, of the South American cities, of the indian tribes, and found temples, where priests had spent generations charting the heavens, and planetary positions, the Christians burned as much as they could, to prevent the world from, possibly, knowing that others had crossed the oceans, or pondered the skies, centuries before Christ was born

We may never know what the true use, of Stonehenge, or Easter island, were, since the Christians went to these places, and others, tortured the local populations into accepting Christ, while destroying all evidence, of trade, which preceeded the invasion.

Is it, indeed, the Christians, who may have even destroyed evidence, for the existance of Atlantis?

Why has Christianity, even as it is, today, either torturing, or starving out, anyone who does not agree with Christianities goals?

Why have missionaries been so determined to desecrate sacred land, by intentionally, building “missions” on lands previously held for worship?

A belief that Jesus survived the crucifixion and spent his remaining years in Kashmir has led to a run-down shrine in Srinagar making it firmly onto the must-visit-in India tourist trail.

In the backstreets of downtown Srinagar is an old building known as the Rozabal shrine.

It’s in a part of the city where the Indian security forces are on regular patrol, or peering out from behind check-posts made of sandbags.

There are still occasional clashes with militants or stone-throwing children, but the security situation has improved in recent times and the tourists are returning.

When I first searched for Rozabal two years ago, the taxi circled around a minor Muslim tomb in a city of many mosques and mausoleums, the driver asking directions several times before we found it.

The shrine, on a street corner, is a modest stone building with a traditional Kashmiri multi-tiered sloping roof.

A watchman led me in and encouraged me to inspect the smaller wooden chamber within, with its trellis-like, perforated screen.

Through the gaps I could see a gravestone covered with a green cloth.

When I returned to the shrine recently though, it was shut – its gate padlocked because it had attracted too many visitors.

The reason? Well, according to an eclectic combination of New Age Christians, unorthodox Muslims and fans of the Da Vinci Code, the grave contains the mortal remains of a candidate for the most important visitor of all time to India.

‘Crazy professor’

Officially, the tomb is the burial site of Youza Asaph, a medieval Muslim preacher – but a growing number of people believe that it is in fact the tomb of Jesus of Nazareth.

They believe that Jesus survived the crucifixion almost 2,000 Easters ago, and went to live out his days in Kashmir.

“What else could they do? They had to close it,” Riaz told me.

His family home almost overlooks the shrine, and he is witheringly dismissive of the notion that Jesus was buried there.

“It’s a story spread by local shopkeepers, just because some crazy professor said it was Jesus’s tomb. They thought it would be good for business. Tourists would come, after all these years of violence.

“And then it got into the Lonely Planet, and too many people started coming.

“And one foreigner…” he gave me an apologetic look, “broke off a bit from the tomb to take home with him. So that’s why it’s closed now.”

On cue, a couple of unwashed and exhausted Australians appeared, carrying the latest edition of the Lonely Planet travel guide to India, which, sure enough, carried the tale of Jesus’s tomb, with some caveats about crackpots and blasphemy.

They asked me to take a photo of them outside the shrine – but were not desperately disappointed that it was closed.

The tomb of Jesus was just another place to tick off on their tourist-in-India must-visit list.

The ruins of a Buddhist monastery in a spectacular location halfway up a mountainside north of Srinagar are not, yet, mentioned in the Lonely Planet.

It’s a spot that I had previously been unable to visit, because as a senior police officer told me, it was “infested with terrorists”.

But the watchman now seemed prepared for the arrival of mass tourism, with his 50 words of English, and his hidden stock of ancient terracotta tiles for sale.

He informed me that Jesus was among the religious leaders who attended a famous Buddhist meeting here in AD80, and even pointed to the place where he sat.

The stories of Jesus in India are not just aimed at gullible tourists – they date back to the 19th Century.

They were part of attempts to explain the striking similarities between Christianity and Buddhism, a matter of great concern to 19th Century scholars – and also a desire among some Christians to root the story of Jesus in Indian soil.

Missing years

There is talk of the missing years of Jesus, unmentioned in the gospels, when he was between the ages of 12 and 30.

Some say he was in India, picking up Buddhist ideas. These aren’t notions that have entirely died out.

The US-based Christian sect, known as the Church Universal and Triumphant, is the best-known modern supporter of the belief that Jesus lived in Kashmir, though they don’t believe he died there.

And in Islam, in which Jesus is the penultimate prophet, there is also a minority tradition adopted by the controversial Ahmeddiya sect, that Rozabal does contain the grave of Jesus.

Double checking. Help?

I recently “failed” a test.
I merely accepted I did bad and continued working to try to make up for it.
However looking back at the test now that I’m studying for exams, I’m noticing that I should have got some questions right!

The quick was marked electronically. We just filled in a multiple choice sheet and it was fed into a system that marks how you do. I think my teacher may have put the wrong sheet in (There were four sections of the test, therefore, 4 sheets”

Can you double check I got these right before I take this up with my teacher?

google maps api commercial alternative?

Dear all,

Please advice.
my requirement is simple.

i have a online software in php and i currently use google maps api
for the map data and have a database of properties that i mark-up on the map using my api. just plain google maps -satellite+hybrid

i want to have my site username and password protected and with user privileges. so that my data is not public.

problem is that google maps api terms are violated if i do so.
the terms say that the maps must be in public domain.

MY QUESTION:
what solution can i use so that the map data provided is cheap
and i can use it for commercial purposes.?
currently i need only the maps of major cities in India.

is there a customized map data provider that can be used for this specific purpose?
can i get map data cheaper elsewhere?

i do not need facilities like google earth etc.

In the papers, he claims that three foreigners, including the woman, sexually abused him, causing him “severe itching and wounds” on his body, including his genitals.

Mr Ansari, a devout Muslim, claims this amounts to torture because it is against his religion, The Sun newspaper has reported.

Mr Ansari was arrested with five other suspects last year.

Police have said that he is a trained member of Lashkar-e-Taiba, the terrorist organisation responsible for the Mumbai attacks.

He was detained in February last year in connection with an attack on a police camp in Rampur that left seven paramilitaries and one civilian dead.

South Carolina and Louisiana are both "backwards inbred red states, yet both of them have Indian governors?

I find that hilarious. Red states have Indian governors yet in the “progressive” blue states most people won’t even let someone of Indian descent run for governor. Not to mention the extremely heavy hatred against people of Indian (India) descent by people in the blue states.

I find that odd. Red states are backwards yet two of them have Indian governors, blue states are “forward” yet there is clear and extremely heavy hatred towards people of Indian descent there.

Absolut vodka pulls ad showing California in Mexico Mon Apr 7, 9:36 PM ET

The distillers of Sweden’s Absolut vodka have withdrawn an advertisement run in Mexico that angered many U.S. citizens by idealizing an early 19th century map showing chunks of the United States as Mexican.

The billboard ad has the slogan “In an Absolut World” slapped over a pre-1848 map showing California, Arizona and other U.S. states as Mexican territory. Those states were carved out of what had been Mexican lands until that year.

Although it was not shown in the United States, U.S. media outlets picked up on the ad, and after a barrage of complaints, Absolut’s maker said on Sunday the ad campaign would cease.

Defending the campaign last week, Absolut maker Vin & Spirit said the ad was created “with a Mexican sensibility” and was not meant for the U.S. market.

“In no way was this meant to offend or disparage, nor does it advocate an altering of borders, nor does it lend support to any anti-American sentiment, nor does it reflect immigration issues,” a spokeswoman wrote on Absolut’s Web site.

“Instead, it hearkens to a time which the population of Mexico may feel was more ideal,” she wrote.

Absolut’s blog cite has received more than a thousand comments since the ad campaign was launched a few weeks ago, with many calling for boycotts of the Swedish company.

“I have poured the remainder of my Absolut bottles down the sink,” one blogger wrote.

A war between Mexico and the United States from 1846 to 1848 started with Mexico’s refusal to recognize the U.S. annexation of Texas and ended with the occupation of Mexico City by U.S. troops.

At the end, Mexico ceded nearly half of its territory to the United States, forming the states of California, Nevada, Utah and parts of Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Wyoming.

Mexicans remain sensitive about the loss and the location of the border. At the same time, the United States is fortifying barriers to keep out undocumented Mexican migrants.

What do the white spots on this map of the MLB TV blackout zones signify?

This shows what each MLB team calls their territory when it comes to TV blackouts in the MLB.tv service. But what are the white spots all over?
They’re not lakes because there’s not one in Utah, they’re not place where there is no internet/cable because of the huge areas near Washington, D.C., Las Vegas, and southern Florida, I don’t think they’re indian reservations, they aren’t problems with the scanning of the map because there are city names over some of the spots..What the heck are they?
